Thames Valley Police confirmed on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that a murder investigation had been launched following the death of the Hendon FC midfielder, who was attacked in the early hours of Sunday, November 1.
The force said two men, aged 21 and 28, both from Luton, had been arrested on suspicion of murder. A third man, aged 30, also from Luton, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
All three suspects remain in police custody as detectives continue their investigation.
According to the police, officers were alerted by the South Central Ambulance Service shortly after 1.50am on Sunday following reports that a man had been assaulted on Midsummer Boulevard in Milton Keynes.
Williams was taken to hospital for treatment but died from his injuries on Monday, November 2.
His identity was formally confirmed by the police on Wednesday, with specially trained officers providing support to his family.
Detective Inspector Rob Underhill, of the Major Crime Unit, said the investigation was ongoing and appealed to members of the public who might have information about the incident to assist detectives.
He said the force did not believe there was any wider risk to the local community, although officers would maintain an increased presence around The Hub and Milton Keynes city centre over the coming days.
Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was around Midsummer Boulevard and The Hub between 1am and 2am on Sunday.
They have also urged residents and visitors with mobile phone footage, dashcam recordings or CCTV images from the area to come forward.
The investigation is being handled by the force’s Major Crime Unit. Members of the public with relevant information can contact police on 101, quoting reference number 43260570882, or provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers.
Williams played as a midfielder for Hendon FC, an eighth-tier English football club based in north-west London. He joined the side in September and had begun establishing himself as a popular member of the dressing room.
In a tribute shared on social media, the club described his death as sudden and tragic, expressing shock at the loss of a player it regarded as humble, generous and quick-witted.
“We are stunned and heartbroken to announce the sudden and tragic passing of midfielder Ezekiel Williams aged 26,” the club said.
Hendon added that Williams had quickly become a well-liked member of the squad and was beginning to make his mark in midfield through his hard-working performances.
The club also revealed that he scored his first goal for the team just 10 days before his death, in a match against Jersey Bulls on October 24.
The Isthmian Football League, where Hendon competes, also paid tribute to the midfielder, describing him as a valued member of its football community.
The league noted that Williams had previously represented several non-league clubs, including Hastings United, Ascot United, Marlow, Northwood, Harrow Borough and Hayes and Yeading United.
Hendon FC has since postponed its London Senior Cup fixture against Woodford Town, which was scheduled for Wednesday, as a mark of respect following the tragedy.
A fundraising appeal has also been launched in Williams’ memory to support his family during the difficult period.
